Dr
David Baume
is a higher education consultant, working in UK
and internationally. His consultancy and development
work has focused on student progress files; course
and programme design; assessment strategies for
a nursing programme; mentoring; project and programme
evaluation; university teaching awards; university
leadership development; preparing case studies on
personal tutoring and learning and teaching innovations;
developing the employability of students; staff
development for part-time teachers; staff development
for enquiry-based learning; and the development
and accreditation of tutors and lecturers.
His
research and publication have concerned the assessment
of portfolios produced on a course in teaching in
higher education; evaluation; and personal development
planning and progress files.
He has long believed in the great importance of
outcome-based education. His first publication on
outcome-based education, a short book, was published
in 1973.
Previously Dr Baume was Director of the Centre for
Higher Education Practice at the Open University,
UK. There, he led production of courses on teaching
in higher education. He was also a founding member
of the National Coordination Team for the HEFCE
Teaching Quality Enhancement Fund, where he supported
many large educational development projects across
England.
Dr Baume taught in higher education for 20 years
before becoming a staff and educational developer.
He was founding chair of the UK Staff and Educational
Development Association (SEDA) from 1990 to 1995,
a founder of the UK Heads of Educational Development
Group (HEDG), and a founding editor of the International
Journal for Academic Development (IJAD). He has
recently co-edited three books on staff and educational
development, and is developing a fourth. He was
an elected member of the Council and the Accreditation
Committee of the UK Institute for Learning and Teaching
in Higher Education (ILTHE). He reviews papers,
books and book proposals for journals, conferences
and publishers.
Dr Baume holds Fellowship of the Staff and Educational
Development Association. His doctorate is in educational
development in higher education. |
