The Use of Electronic Detection Tools at PolyU

As part of a holistic strategy to prevent and detect student plagiarism, PolyU provides licensed use of the electronic detection tools, Turnitin and SafeAssign, to help staff detect plagiarism as well as help their students learn. The main focus is on educating students the importance of avoiding it rather than simply catching and punishing the offenders.

The following PowerPoint file describes the why and how of using electronic detection tools, as well as their applicability and limitations. [Link to PowerPoint file]

Both Turnitin and SafeAssign services are integrated in Blackboard, ready for staff and students to use. The following guides provide step-by-step instructions on how to use these two services to detect possible plagiarism.
