  Support to University's Strategic Initiatives      
 

EDC supports Faculties/Schools/Departments/teachers in implementing the University’s strategic educational initiatives, and in evaluating the outcomes of the implementation. The initiatives include:

  • the new 4-year curriculum
  • outcome-based education (OBE)
  • development and assessment of students’ generic competencies
  • criterion-referenced assessment (CRA)
  • work-integrated education (WIE)
  • promoting students’ academic integrity
  • preparation for the upcoming UGC quality assurance exercise

What Kind of Help You Can Get from EDC?

  • Faculties/Schools/Departments can approach EDC for customized support in the implementation and evaluation of the initiatives, e.g., running departmental workshops, conducting programme reviews, advising and providing feedback on implementation plans/project proposals/reports, etc.
  • You can learn about concepts, methods, and examples relevant to the initiatives from EDC workshops.
  • You can obtain hands-on assistance in implementing the initiatives in your subjects/programmes.
  • You can find useful information/resources from the websites/resource banks that EDC has specifically developed for the different initiatives.

  Teaching Development Programmes & Workshops  
 
 

EDC offers a number of extended programmes and a wide range of workshops throughout the year to cater for the different needs of different groups of teaching staff.

For full-time teachers who are new to teaching

  • Introduction to University Teaching (IUT): Preparing to Teach

A 22-hour intensive programme to provide new teachers with practical skills and ideas for the first few weeks of teaching

  • Certificate in University Teaching (CUT): The Teaching and Learning Process

An extended programme which builds on IUT with the aim of enhancing teachers’ teaching knowledge and skills, with a duration of about 46 hours spanning 14 weeks

For research staff and research students with teaching as part of their duties/training

  • Basic Teaching Techniques for Research Staff and Research Students (BTTR)

A 9-hour programme which provides participants with techniques to support student learning in tutorials and practical lessons

For PolyU part-time teachers who are new to teaching

  • Becoming a Skillful Teacher (BST)

A 6-hour programme which provides participants with practical tips for teaching part-time students

We run teaching development workshops throughout the year to help you:

  • learn about new developments in teaching and learning, and work out strategies for improvement,
  • keep abreast of the University’s educational initiatives and develop skills that are needed to support the initiatives, and
  • hear what other PolyU teachers are doing in their classrooms, and share useful ideas.

We advertise our workshops in advance with emails, posters and flyers. Surely some will be of interest to you!

  Institutional Learning Outcomes Assessment & Teaching Evaluation      
 

EDC supports Faculties, Schools, Departments, programme teams and individual teachers to plan and conduct learning outcomes assessment activities, as well as other forms of educational or programme evaluation. We also coordinate the university-wide Student Feedback Questionnaire (SFQ) exercise.

We can help you:

  • develop a learning outcomes assessment plan (LOAP) for your Department/School/programme/subject
  • design and implement LOA activities for your Department/School/programme
  • evaluate students’ experiences or learning outcomes
  • evaluate programmes or teaching development projects
  • interpret your SFQ results
  • use alternative ways to collect feedback from students to improve their learning
  • develop your teaching portfolio for improvement or appraisal purposes

eLDSS aims to provide an integrated service for eLearning support and development in PolyU – a one-stop-shop offering a range of services to meet all of your eLearning needs.

eLDSS offers a broad range of professional development opportunities in eLearning for Departments/Schools and teachers. These include workshops, short courses, and online resources as well as individual consultations and sessions tailored for your Department/School and programme team.

Wish to Use eLearning with Your Students?

Our team can work with you to design, develop and evaluate eLearning projects. We provide assistance in learning design, graphic/technical development and evaluation. We can also strategically work with you to develop a proposal for your eLearning project when funding is available.

  Support to LTC & Learning & Teaching Development Projects      
 

EDC provides functional advice and secretarial support to the Learning and Teaching Committee (LTC), and administers the Projects Management System (PMS) which assists Departmental LTCs (DLTCs) in monitoring the progress and quality of the teaching and learning development projects based in their Departments.

We are happy to help you prepare proposals for teaching and learning development projects when funding becomes available.
